2018 has been a huge year for me and I can’t believe it’s almost been one year since my blog launch! I have made it to a ton of festivals this year from my first CRSSD, to my 8th EDC, Anjunabeach, my first international festival (Tomorrowland), Secret Project, Escape, Dreamstate and now Countdown! A big thanks to all of you for reading my blogs and supporting me continuously. Let’s go ahead and get to my final festival review of 2018 – Insomniac’s Countdown NYE.
Fun fact, Countdown is actually my rave anniversary. In 2011 I went to my first massive event aka White Wonderland. Honestly, this was one of my favorite events because it was local (at the Anaheim Convention Center), in doors, and everyone wore white! I went to all of them until 2015 when Insomniac chose to focus on one huge event, Countdown NYE. Although I’m a little sad that White Wonderland is a thing of the past, the NOS will always have a special place in my heart!
Like I mentioned above, the NOS Center in San Bernardino is kind of like my second home! I love the open outdoor areas and was shocked to see how much décor Insomniac put out for Countdown. Dreamstate was completely bare bones, but for this event they spared no expense in terms of lights, performers, and installations!
The stages were pretty decked out and the sound system was great!
Now this was no Decadence line up, but it wasn’t too bad. There was a better variety including Bass, House, Techno, and mainstream. I’m still a little confused why Insomniac chose to do Audiotistic on Saturday vs. a two day NYE event on Sunday and Monday, but who knows? We went in with low expectations but surprisingly enjoyed Andrew Rayel (the only trance), had a blast with Solardo, and rang in the new year with Justin Martin.
The Countdown crowd was a little different to me in terms of what I’ve seen in the past. I felt like there were a lot of new ravers and everyone was more mellow. I wonder if a lot of the regular Insomniac attendees checked out Decadence? Could have been the fact that it was windy and around 40 degrees! It was definitely crowded when walking around it cleared up fast as soon as midnight came around.
Honestly nothing exciting to report here. You had people completely bundled up in snow attire or girls wearing pasties and bikini bottoms! I tried to stay warm and fashionable!
Countdown exceeded my expectations, but this might be my last one! Still undecided, but what did you all do for NYE? Interested to hear more about Decadence, Lights All Night, and OMFG NYE. Hope everyone had an amazing 2018 and a Happy New Year!
