Festival Fashion Designer Spotlight – Flower Child Revolution

Happy Holidays everyone! I’m amazed that 2018 is almost over and wanted to feature one more amazing designer to close out the year! This festival fashion designer spotlight features Flower Child Revolution, one of my favorite brands for fun festival accessories ranging from LED kitty ears, to flower crowns, and even fluffy chokers! Take a look at what founder and creator, Morgan, has to say about her brand and the culture of festival fashion below.
What is FlowerChild Revolution?
FlowerChild Revolution is a flower headband and led accessory company that utilizes fashion and visual experiences to act as a light to the world while raising cervical cancer awareness.
Flowerchild represents freedom, Individuality, self expression, and love.
When you wear FlowerChild Revolution you are not just wearing a headband, you are supporting a lifestyle and a cause. You are making a statement that says, “I choose to be happy and free from a life of restrictions and societal conformity.” Most importantly you are choosing to be happy.

When did you start your brand?
The number one question I get asked most is how did you come up with your brand and my response is always the same. God just led me to it. If you would have told me back in 2010 I would have developed an accessory line I would have laughed in your face. My professional experience and education is geared towards law. I was sure I would become an attorney but I have always been a fashionista just like you. 😉 People would look forward to seeing what I would wear to class daily haha. As such, I got invited to EDC Chicago and I had never attended any type of festival event. Wanting to tap into the “culture” I decided I needed a flower crown. I bought some flowers and designed my first headband and after that I became addicted. At first I was crafting them as a hobby to maintain my sanity while working in corporate America but my passion grew and in 2016 I left my old life behind and incorporated my business.
All in the midst of this transition I was diagnosed with HPV Type 16 and severe cervical dysplasia. At the age of 23 I was told by my treating physician that I would need to undergo a total hysterectomy within a year. After I fought my way through that season without developing cervical cancer, I knew that FlowerChild was to be utilized as a platform to reach other women and raise awareness so that they would not have to endure the pain that I did. You would not believe how many women I have encountered who have been affected by cervical cancer and it is a discussion that needs to be had.
What does festival fashion mean to you?
Festival fashion has no boundaries. The music festival scene has cultivated a culture of people from all walks of life who can express themselves freely without judgment being passed. I believe that one of the main reasons music festivals are so popular is for that very reason. Everyone is looking to be loved and feel accepted for who they are without having to cover themselves up with a mask. The mask is gone when you’re at a festival and that is visually expressed through the fashion! Wear what you want, be who you want to be, and live a life of true freedom while expressing your individuality. Throw your suit in the garbage and replace it with some sequins or glitter if that is who you are. Life is meant to be fun and to be enjoyed and festival fashion is a great outlet to do that with. To me festival fashion isn’t just to be worn at a festival, I wear my products every opportunity I get. If I am out at night I wear my glow products. I get asked, “Is it your birthday?” My response, “Everyday is a chance to celebrate life!” Many people would say that you cannot have fun all the time and I disagree with that statement. It really is very simple. Find what you love, find out how to make money doing it, and then you never have a job. Instead you have a dream!

How did you come up with your style?
Flowers signify many different things to me. They are one of God’s most beautiful creations. They represent peace, joy, love, and happiness. When I began making my headbands I was in a dark space and sometimes filled with anger. My solution to that problem would be to create, put on, and dance around my house in my flower wares. They were and still are my happy place. No one can be unhappy with flowers in their hair. This is science! Haha Add lights to that equation and you have my style. Feminine yet edgy, and BOLD. Never afraid to stand out or do something that doesn’t fit in line with the norm. Take something average and make it extraordinary!
What products do you offer?
My products consist of various LED accessories. Most of which are for your hair; ears and headbands; and we also do chokers. It is all about the lights! Hence our company motto of “Be the Light.”
What inspires you?
As an artist I am constantly inspired daily by the world around me. Sometimes my inspiration comes from the joy of a face that lights up when they talk about their passions and dreams or sometimes it is in the form of street art or a random flower I find when I am walking down the street. I’m inspired by the idea of shaking shit up. Creating products that turn heads and can be found offensive while going against the status quo just because I can. Breaking chains and labels; no mediocrity and of course other successful women who are running their own companies. The idea of the future is what inspires me most. Where can I go and how can I create products and experiences that leave long lasting memories and a positive impact on the world. The possibilities are endless when you utilize your creativity.
What is coming down the pipeline?
FlowerChild sells products but that is never what the company has been about. I started my company in the crowd, building relationships with people, dancing, taking pictures, and usually seeing them again at the next event which made it more about the experience as opposed to visiting me at a booth. The future of FlowerChild Revolution will highlight those interactions. The brand is moving in a positive direction and becoming a staple in the festival scene and will hopefully be an even larger contributor to the festival experience in the near future. We are going bigger, better, and more innovative in 2019! Stay tuned!
Advice for other aspiring entrepreneurs
Follow your passions. Let your trials and tribulations speak through your work and use them to impact the world and others around you. If you have a natural gift in a particular area cater to that gift and nurture it like a flower that needs water to bloom. A purposeless life is dull and I believe that we are all here to leave our mark on the world or we wouldn’t be here in the first place.
Act now. If you are scared to fail you will never win. Don’t expect to have overnight success. Having your own company is a long hard road and you don’t see the struggle that most “success stories” undergo prior to getting to that happy place but as long as you have vision it will bring forth provision and your desire to live out your life’s mission will surpass your temporary feelings of wanting to quit and give up.
Lastly, you do not choose to be an entrepreneur it chooses you. I pray that I can inspire and motivate you to pursue and place any of your dreams into action so that you to can live a life of fulfillment!
